O Hai Santa!

002

003

Yep...all grown up (and an atheist :P) and still getting my picture taken with Santa. The PX was actually pretty dead today, and I left early. This picture is from awhile ago.

And that's the last day of my booth for this year. Now it's back to making stuff for next year's booth, with a better idea of what I should reasonably expect, and a better idea of what customers are looking for, and pricing and what I can reasonably do about pricing and custom orders.

Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow, regardless of faith or lack thereof. :)

And not a moment too soon. I was weaving in the last of the ends at the booth, but I finished before the customer arrived. And he loved it! He and one of the other shopkeepers held it up so I could take pictures. I am so relieved, and so glad it turned out so well!

Tables Again! 6 of 6

Tiiiiiired. Turning the strips of squares into a blanket is cumbersome and awkward, but it looks awesome!

G Squares - done!

G Square

Turned 28 the other day. Yeah, on Black Friday. And I was at the PX at not-quite-the-crack-of-dawn with an attempt at a Black Friday sale. Next year I think I'll just get there at the regular time. Showing up early works better for people like Mary Ellen (her shop sells chocolates, paninis, tea and coffee and other beverages) than for me, especially since my booth isn't by where the line was.

I took pictures of the booth in its latest incarnation, and I'll post pictures of those once I'm done posting the squares (and spacing them out because I'm so lazy about taking pictures--sorry about that!).

D Squares - ...mostly done :)

D Square

This is the biggest project I've ever done, and I'm starting to regret charging materials x 3 and not by the hour. Though in that case the commission wouldn't have gone through at all because of the client's budget constraints. I really should get my butt in gear with Etsy and online advertising.

A Squares - done!

A Square

Apologies for the poor photo quality. I seem to have misplaced my camera.

Sunday, November 6, 2011

Just got a huge commission! :D

Got a request for a colorful king-size comforter. He gave me a list of colors:
  • purple
  • red
  • blue
  • green
  • yellow
  • orange
  • black
  • hot pink

He didn't want one huge square so I thought about a bunch of squares (either that or a huge striped blanket, I thought squares would be easier to work on at the booth and it'd look better) and spent the rest of the day thinking of colors and doing the math. A five-round square with two colors would be 10" across, so I'd do squares going through the colors and I came up with eight sets:

-Square A-
Round 1: Purple/Purple
Round 2: Purple/Red
Round 3: Red/Red
Round 4: Red/Blue
Round 5: Blue/Blue

-Square B-
Round 1: Red/Red
Round 2: Red/Blue
Round 3: Blue/Blue
Round 4: Blue/Green
Round 5: Green/Green

-Square C-
Round 1: Blue/Blue
Round 2: Blue/Green
Round 3: Green/Green
Round 4: Green/Yellow
Round 5: Yellow/Yellow

-Square D-
Round 1: Green/Green
Round 2: Green/Yellow
Round 3: Yellow/Yellow
Round 4: Yellow/Orange
Round 5: Orange/Orange

-Square E-
Round 1: Yellow/Yellow
Round 2: Yellow/Orange
Round 3: Orange/Orange
Round 4: Orange/Black
Round 5: Black/Black

-Square F-
Round 1: Orange/Orange
Round 2: Orange/Black
Round 3: Black/Black
Round 4: Black/Hot Pink
Round 5: Hot Pink/Hot Pink

-Square G-
Round 1: Black/Black
Round 2: Black/Hot Pink
Round 3: Hot Pink/Hot Pink
Round 4: Hot Pink/Purple
Round 5: Purple/Purple

-Square H-
Round 1: Hot Pink/Hot Pink
Round 2: Hot Pink/Purple
Round 3: Purple/Purple
Round 4: Purple/Red
Round 5: Red/Red

And black hdc borders around each square.

Thoughts?

Scarf Idea

One of these days, and probably before I get around to making one or more versions of the Tom Baker Scarf from Doctor Who, I'm going to make scarves based on military ribbons. Here are some of them. What do you think?

My Workspace, 4 of 5

Yeah, I have a big stash. If not for all the special orders I'd just settle down and just use what I've already got for awhile!

This is the day I got the electric yarn ball winder. I wanted a manual one, but that was all I could freaking find, and it's loud! In fact, I haven't used it since.

One Full Skein

september 25 (2)

In this case, of Lion Brand Homespun Yarn in Painted Desert coloring. The project is a nine-foot-long scarf and I wish I'd taken a picture after I finished, because it came out really well--and really big! A guy who was watching as I finished it said it wouldn't look out of place on an episode of Doctor Who. I wish!

Some Ideas

more late september (3)

more late september (4)

In the first one, I'm making squares and thinking about making Tetris piece-shaped toys. In the second, you can see the notebook but also some pink yarn, 'cause I was going to make a bunch of pink scarves. October coming up, after all! Well, I still will but y'all know I have a tendency to get sidetracked. :)
