Tempted...

Tempted to take all my medium/worsted weight or lighter yarn and just start making a blanket, just a plain double crochet (US terminology) blanket, adding whatever color comes next, and seeing how many I'd make while listening to books or watching TV or whatnot. Just for the fun of it.

The only thing stopping me is that I've done such "patchwork blankets" before and they've turned out kinda hideous. I've recently found out how to make those rows even (you'd think I'd have had the hang of that for years but nope, just this month! *sigh*), but it'd probably still look awful...well, maybe unless I only put the same type/weight/intensity yarn in the grab bag. Though most of what I have in that sort of quantity is Read Heart Super Saver, which gets made into blankets a lot but isn't the softest yarn out there. (It's not the scratchiest either--that would be fisherman's wool or rug yarn :P)

What do you think? Would you be interested to see it anyway?

Still alive.

Just last night I was able to have computer and internet working at the same time for the first time since early February. I charge my camera by USB-ing it to my computer, so it's being raised from the dead as I type this. I've made a bunch of stuff and organized most of my yarn in the meantime, and I do hope to have months' worth of pictures (in posting-every-day terms) once I've got everything photographed.

I got back into scrapbooking recently because I didn't seem to be making anything but hats and scarves (and it's finally coming into spring here in New York where the manchild and I are currently stationed), so while maybe I can sell those to my Aussie friends, I do need more summery things to sell locally, and now that I can access Ravelry and sites like it, I can go for ideas.

I have taken a crack at summery shawls (mixed success) and bags (eh...but I'll keep trying), but I want other stuff to do, some idea that I can do my way so that it becomes a unique design like my ruffle scarves and even the scrunchies.

What to do with this thing?

I found some yarn I'd wrapped up together--left over from the red-white-and-blue fuzzy blankies--but all I had enough for, really...was a brim, and one more row since I knew I wouldn't be able to finish it off with what little give you get after making a brim.

A bowl of some sort, maybe?

Cozy Classic Pullover

Pattern here at Lion Brand Yarn. I'm using their Homespun yarn for this project, as they suggested. (I hope that this project, like the Olive Scarf, turns out great at the end despite looking kinda iffy at the beginning.)

I just wish that I could use this pattern for commercial purposes, 'cause this pattern is as easy as they say it is. :)



I also blocked out on graph paper the basic measurements:



The bigger one, one square is 2" square, the smaller one, one square is 3" square. I blocked it out that way (and adjusted the measurements from what Lion Brand had) so it'd be multiples of whichever number I needed. This way I can try making sweaters in that shape using squares or even cloth. It's a style I like, and I'm a short person with short arms, so this'll be the beginning of me making my own clothes that are custom-made to fit my hard-to-fit self! :D
