Scarf Idea

One of these days, and probably before I get around to making one or more versions of the Tom Baker Scarf from Doctor Who, I'm going to make scarves based on military ribbons. Here are some of them. What do you think?












Window stickers from the PX. So...what do you think? Would the servicemembers want to wear them or would it be more of a spouse thing?

Bargain of the Year!

18 skeins of yarn from Michael's. They all look to be unused, but they were returned and they didn't have the paper on them that is usual with yarn, and they were in the dollar bins where there's usually little candles or tiny stamp pads or random stuff with initials on them.

Yep, I spent $18 on 18 skeins of yarn. Each one is roughly three times that at full retail.

The first image is of all the yarn on the bed in my mom's guest room (which used to be my room but is now totally different), which has dusky pink sheets and there's a floral-print bedspread visible around the edges. The other four images are a clockwise series of close-ups of the same yarn.

I don't always do well crocheting with the Homespun, but it's great on the Knifty Knitter. The other four are, I think, one organic cotton something or other (the pink-brown-white one) and the other three either Vanna's Choice or Impeccable.

Organizing! For Fun and...well...alas, no profit.

I've been organizing, crocheting, and listening to audiobooks. I'm burning through Audible credits faster than I intended to! Good thing there's an impressive audiobook selection at the post library to supplement the ones I'm paying for. (Now if the post library just had more of the Vorkosigan Saga... *sigh*)

Anyhow, here's one side of my office/library/workspace type room that is pretty much all organized at this point:

I'm planning on moving the stackable drawer elsewhere and scooting the desk to the left so I don't have to clutter the desk with scrapbooking stuff (except the sticker box, apparently, which is still on my desk, as I just now noticed :P). And now all the yarn's out of the bedroom, which means I don't have to wake up Chris like I did sometimes when I had a smaller set of that kind of shelving there for storage.

Those Frappucino bottles were originally saved to be made into candles, but I think it's gonna be quite awhile before I get to that project, so I'm using them to hold beads. Rather convenient, actually. And I still have the lids so I can take them elsewhere without spilling them all over the place.

Between setting up those shelves, balling lots of yarn, and my most recent scarf, I think what's on the back of my right hand now is a small subdermal hematoma. I get bruises all the time (though usually on my shoulders and shins, since they only exist to find furniture in the dark :P), but this looks beneath my somewhat translucent skin (thanks, Uncle Sam, for those three years in Alaska, you jerk!), not on top of it. Fizzy says it's probably just another bruise and to call it an "honourable wound." So prolly I just will. :)

Yarn Stash, Embiggened.

I got into the store about twenty minutes before they closed, but since I've been a closing cashier myself I made sure to head up front to the registers as soon as they made the "okay now we're closed" announcement. The yarn from the Cozy Pullover was also in that purchase, but it's already been rolled into balls. :)



The plan for the white yarn is to make a lacy shawl suitable for a formal event, since most formal dresses for women my age are sleeveless...and maybe I'll like sleeveless tops when I'm in better shape (well, I'm working on it), but for now, not so much. Anyhow, I really love the yarn because it's soft and it's got opalescent thread going through it. The opalescent thread is what I think will make the piece formal-appropriate. :)
